When Sanjay Dutt's mom Nargis chose Sunil Dutt over Raj Kapoor

Nargis, who is known as Mother India of Bollywood, redefined the Indian cinema not just romantic but as a serious actress. Better known as Fatima Rashid, Nargis is the mother of actor Sanjay Dutt who is currently in jail for his involvement in the 1991 Mumbai blasts case. 

Nargis was linked to Raj Kapoor before she got married to Sunil Dutt. The two had a sparkling onscreen chemistry which spilled into love. The two actors worked in sixteen films together. They gave some of the most memorable films like Bewafa, Shree 420, Awara, Anhoni and Jaagte Raho.

However, their relationship was limited only to films as the two failed to take it forward in real life. 

After Raj Kapoor, Nargis married Sunil Dutt on 11 March, 1958 and had three children together: Sanjay, Namrata, and Priya.

Nargis and Sunil Dutt met on the sets of Do Bigha Zamin. While Nargis was the most successful actress of the time, Sunil Dutt was a struggling actor. Sunil Dutt fell in love with her at the first sight and love blossomed between the two.

  

Nargis lived at Marine Drive and used to pass in her white car from in front of Sunil Dutt’s college. Sunil was a big fan of Nargis and used to wait for her car before his class. But as marriages are made in heaven, the two united at last.

  

When Sunil Dutt decided to tie the knot with Nargis, he even got death threats. Sunil was a Hindu while Nagis a Muslim. It was said that the two may not go far but they made the critics silent.
