'Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewani' set to enter 100 crore club

It seems that the director Ayan Mukherjee has hit the bull’s eye with his second outing ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. It seems the film is on its way to join the Rs.100 crore club and might be the biggest hit of this year. It is already the biggest opener of the year 2013. The success of the movie propels the youngster Ranbir Kapoor towards superstardom. No doubt that he is establishing himself as a force to reckon with in Bollywood.
The film produced by Karan Johar released on Friday (31st May 2013) and had an average occupancy of 90 to 100 percent on the opening day. The movie collected Rs. 19. 45 crore on the first day but as positive words of mouth spread amongst the viewers the next day (1st June 2013) it earned Rs. 20.16 crore. The Bollywood film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeting about the performance of the movie wrote, "#YehJawaaniHaiDeewani Fri 19.45 cr, Sat 20.16 cr. Total: Rs. 39.61 cr. FANTABULOUS". On Sunday the earning of the movie was Rs. 22.5 crore. So on the first 3 days the film made a net earnings of whooping Rs. 62.11 crore.
The film is doing great at the overseas market as well. The collections are decent in UK, US AND New Zealand. On Friday and Saturday YJHD collected Rs. 2.39 crore in UK and Rs. 20.6 Lakh in New Zealand. The film has earned $ 1.6 million from US market and has ranked in the top ten movies. The film released in record 162 theatres in US and ranks in the eighth spot of the top ten films this week.
This film is set to release in other offshore markets as well. YJHD is all set to release in Israel and Russia. Ranbir Kapoor is nostalgic about his film release in Russia as the country had a fan following for his grandfather, legendary Raj Kapoor. Ranbir said, “My grandfather was very popular in Russia. The people of Russia gave tremendous love to him and his films. Finally, I am getting a chance to release my film in Russia. I hope that Russia opens up a very big market for Indian cinema. I think Indian film market is growing globally. We have big markets in Brazil, China, Japan and I think Russia coming into the picture would be great for Indian cinema.”
