Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor did not seal with a ‘Nikaah’ after the registry marriage as reported but the duo exchanged wedding vows in the evening. No ‘Nikaah’ or ‘Saath Pheras’ was held, the newly wedded couple only exchanged wedding vows and exchanged wedding rings. They followed the Christian tradition as Kareena’s mother Babita follows Christianity. Hence, they got married in a Christian style after a registry marriage in the morning.
When Bebo exchanged wedding vows with Saif, she wore her mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore’s gharara but after the rituals, she changed to Manish Malhotra’s wedding outfit.
"They just exchanged vows at the Taj Mahal hotel in Colaba. There were no `saath pheras`... They did not adhere to any particular style (of wedding)," Malhotra told reporters.
The registry marriage in the morning was a private affair with only few relatives and close one but the wedding reception in the evening was attended by Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri, Priety Zinta, Karan Johar, Tusshar Kapoor, Salman Khan`s sister Alvira, Anil Kapoor with daughter Sonam.
Speaking about Kareena’s gharara, Manish Malhotra said, "I worked on the antique Pataudi gharara that was restored by Ritu Kumar for Kareena`s wedding... We did the final fittings and added a bit of touch of embroidery here and there," Malhotra said.
"When Saif and Kareena exchanged vows... She wore Sharmilaji`s gharara for some time," Malhotra said.
After the wedding vows, the bride changed into Manish Malhotra’s creation and Saif donned achkan designed by Raghavendra Rathore.
"Kareena wore a burgundy color embellished gharara with maroon duppatta. I gave a very old world charm to all the ghararas. The party had 80-100 people and went on till 3 am," Malhotra said.
Wishing his daughter and son-in-law a blissful life, Randhir Kapoor said, "I request all fans of Kareena and Saif to wish the couple a happy marriage... We are happy that they married without any conversion. Here two lovers have got married... They are two lovely people."
All the members of the Kapoor and Pataudi’s family graced the wedding of Saif and Kareena.
After five years of courtship, Saif and Kareena got married on 16thOctober. They worked together in films like ‘Tashan’, `LOC Kargil`, `Omkara` and `Kurbaan`.
After the release of ‘Agent Vinod’, both decided that they will get hitched.
