‘Miss Lovely’ the brainchild of director Ashim Ahluwalia bagged the best film award at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival. Hansal Mehta’s ‘Shahid’ was the runner-up while Manjeet Singh received the special jury award for Mumbai Cha Raja.
Ashim’s Film ‘Miss Lovely’ also won the Reliance Media Works CreaTech award (Creative and Technology award) that was organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI).
Let’s give some insights into the film; ‘Miss Lovely’ an Indian drama film is something that brings in admiration. The film was started as a documentary on the C-grade films of Bollywood fringes, but somehow later developed as a film script since filmmakers were not willing to speak on camera.
Alissa Simon reviewed the film by saying "Something new in Indian filmmaking, neither Bollywood nor traditional art cinema, the picture provides a unique, immersive experience...one that owes as much to documentary and experimental filmmakers as to Scorsese, Welles and von Sternberg, plunging viewers into the characters' social milieu.”
The Mumbai Film Festival is considered as one of the most promising and reputed film festivals in Asia by the veterans in cinema. The festival held by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image and presented by the Reliance Entertainment and American Express saw the screening of around 230 films from across the world.
The closing ceremony of the festival witnessed a grand award function where the legendary actress Waheeda Rehman received the Lifetime Achievement Award from filmmaker and MAMI Chairman Shyam Benegal thus adding feathers to her honor.
Waheeda after receiving the award said, "I am thrilled to receive this award from MAMI. I dedicate it to the directors, producers, co-actors, technicians who have been a part of this journey with me." Waheeda said.
The film 'Aqui Y Alla’ meaning (Here And There) was recognized as the best film in the International Competition Category, meanwhile Dwight Henry for ‘'Beasts of the Southern Wild' got the best actor’s award and the best actress award was won by Julia Garner for 'Electrick Children'. Pankaj Kumar was awarded the jury award of technical experience for the film ‘Ship of Theseus’ while the film ‘Valley of Saints’ bagged Musa Sayeed the special jury award.
It does not end here; the evening saw the film ‘Night Boats’ judged as the best film in the ‘Celebrate Age category while the runner up was ‘The Delay’.
All in all, the ceremony and the festival was something to look out for. It was a splendid show and opportunity for the cinema addicts and movie lovers.
