“Jab Tak Hai Jaan”, apart from its star cast and its director-Yash Chopra, who was to bid adieu to direction with his last offering, became a subject of attention for its director’s death.
The film industry came to a standstill, one month before the film’s release, with his sudden death due to dengue and multiple organ failure. However, the film saw a star-studded premiere and a great response from the audience on its release.
The film ‘Son of Sardar’, which has Ajay Devgan and Sonakshi Sinha as its lead pair, released on the same day, however, ‘JTHJ’ swept away more attention from the fans.
But what is surprising is that, it is not only in India that the film has got a positive response. It is also the box-office of the USA that the film has made an entry into.
The veteran filmmaker’s film has made it to the ‘top ten’ of the box-office at the USA. It has secured the eight spot among the other Hollywood films of A-listers.
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2” which released on the 16th of November worldwide, made it to the top of the list and grossed USD worth 141.1 million in USA and Canada. The latest James Bond film, ‘Skyfall’ shifted to the number two spot in the second week. This film grossed USD 41.1 million.
What grabbed eyeballs was, when the film “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” entered the list. This 3-hour film grabbed the number 8 spot making money worth USD 1.3 million. The appearance of a Bollywood film is very rare in a list that mostly has Hollywood films dominating it.
Now the film has collected a total of USD 7.58 million which has made ‘JTHJ’ the highest opener ever in countries like the UK, US, the Middle East and the Australia. This statement was released by the producers at Yash Raj Films.
‘JTHJ’ is now sharing the platform with bigwigs from the Hollywood films such as ‘Lincoln’ by Steven Spielberg which has secured the third position at the box-office in the USA and has made a total of USD worth 21 million.
“Wreck-It Ralph”- the animation film from Disney which is about a villain of the virtual world wanting to become a hero, has collected USD worth 18.6 million and has held the fourth position.
Denzel Washington’s “Flight” is in the fifth position. It has raked in USD worth 8.8 million.
