“Jab Tak Hai Jaan” has been hyped ever since the film went on floors. The film is Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture. The film was completed by him, leaving only a portion of a song to be shot outdoors; in Yash Chopra’s ever favorite Switzerland location.
This portion has been left out since he died on the 21st of October. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles. The film released this Diwali and has been doing really well at the box office. This movie produced by Yash Raj Films has been made with a budget of 50 crores. It has been shot in many exotic foreign locales.
On the same date “Son of Sardar” released, which belongs to the genre of action-comedy and stars Ajay Devgan, Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt. The film gave quite a tough competition but then “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” made more mullahs at the box-office.
It is being estimated that JTHJ has collected more than 75 crores already at the box-office. The film got released on a Tuesday and its box-office collections have only improved over the weekend. It has witnessed a good response on its opening date at the market in overseas as well. Overseas collection has been a total of 26 crores.
The box-office collections of this film decreased on Sunday, though on Saturday it did good business. The reason of a decrease at the collections is due to the death of Shiv Sena’s leader Bal Thackeray. The film’s screenings were cancelled at many places in Maharashtra due to his funeral. The film could do a business of only 9.25 crores this Sunday.
The Mumbai circuit is considered the main centre of doing good business when it comes to Hindi films. With Bal Thackeray’s death and the theatres remaining shut JTHJ and SOS suffered a severe setback in the collections.
The film has been doing very well at the multiplexes; however, at the single-screens its business has not been that strong. It had grossed 45 crores on its first three days of screening.
However, “Son of Sardar”, too has been doing pretty well at the box-office despite having too share the release date with JTHJ. It has been released in 2000 theatres in comparison to JTHJ being released at 2500 theatres. “Son of Sardar” has collected 59 crores over the 6 days of its screenings and is nearing the 60 crore mark.
